Four B.C. companies have been named as finalists in the HSBC Bank Canada’s International Business Awards.

The awards were developed in partnership with Business without Borders to recognize Canadian firms that have made a difference in taking their products and services to the world.

The finalists are:

  • BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc., Vancouver;
  • Energold Drilling Corp., Vancouver;
  • Pacific Prince Investments Inc. (SPF Pre-Cut Lumber), Port Coquitlam; and
  • Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., Richmond.

BioteQ and SPF are nominated in the International Trade in Asia-Pacific category.

Since 2006, BioteQ, a water treatment company, has entered four new international markets: China, Mexico, Turkey and Australia.

The company’s first plant was built in China at the Dexing Mine in 2008, a joint venture between BioteQ and Jiangxi Copper Company, which earned the 2008 China Mining Award for Environmental Protection for its role in removing metal contaminants from mine wastewater. The project also earned recognition with the 2010 Canada China Business Council.

SPF, which makes and exports wood products, has been active in the Asia-Pacific region through its efforts to promote the B.C. forestry sector. It has applied a unique supply and logistics model, tailoring a product mix to its customers in China, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia.

Energold, a contract drilling company involved in the international mining sector, is nominated in the International Trade in Latin America category. The company holds interests in more than a dozen projects in the Dominican Republic. Its top four export markets are Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Chile.

Stork Craft, which manufactures children’s furniture, is nominated for the International Business of the Year award, Large Enterprise. It has grown from a small domestic manufacturer to the largest of its kind in the world, employing 2,300 people internationally.

In late 2010, the company purchased land in China to build a warehouse to be used as the gateway for product distribution worldwide. This warehouse will also house 1 million square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.

The winners will be announced May 10 in Toronto.
