Travellers have a new option for ordering foreign cash prior to leaving the country. ICE International Currency Exchange (ICE) has announced the launch of its new online Click & Collect currency reservation service.
The service allows customers to order 28 foreign currencies online and pick up their funds at any of ICE’s locations.
ICE has locations at Vancouver International Airport, on Robson Street in downtown Vancouver and at Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley.
The service is free and customers do not need to pay for the currency until it is picked up.
Gabrielle Durning, ICE’s marketing and product manager, said the service gives travellers the chance to save money on exchange fees.
“By processing their transactions through Click & Collect, they are always going to get a better service charge,” Durning said.
She said the service, with changes tailored to the local market, represents a redesign of similar systems used overseas.
The difference is that users do not have to prepay with a credit card, Durning said. As well, unlike in Europe and the U.K., the funds aren’t delivered to the customers’ homes, which she said gives them more flexibility.
“(Click & Collect) doesn’t seem as risky, and is more appealing to the Canadian consumer.”
Some of the less common currencies available through Click & Collect include Thai baht, Chilean pesos and Norwegian krones.
Travellers can access the service at www.ice-canada.ca.
