“There’s definitely a change after the Labour Day weekend. Peoples’ mindset starts changing. The summer is behind us. Many people have a lot of plans over the summer and don’t have time to meet new people,” said Paddi Rice, president of Executive Search Dating.

“September is also very busy. Then October hits you and, all of a sudden, people realize that potentially there’s six months of pretty miserable weather. They won’t be walking on a beach as much, So, I think that’s why people tend to get a bit more serious at this time of year.”

Rice’s company has grown from setting up about 100 dates per month two years ago to setting up about 200 dates per month now.

Revenue has steadily grown at 30% to 50% annually and he projects he will be approaching $500,000 in revenue by the end of 2010.

He urges singles to plan ahead for Halloween and not get stuck at home handing out candy.

One good thing about Halloween parties, Rice added, is that being in costume enables singles to be bolder when approaching someone.
