Future Shop leveraging social media to fill 4,000 temp positions

Future Shop will turn to social media to fill its hiring needs this holiday season.

Future Shop will turn to social media to fill its hiring needs this holiday season.

The Burnaby-based company said Monday it would bank on media channels such as Facebook and Twitter to find more than 4,000 “tech savvy” people to fill seasonal employment positions at stores across the country.

“We recognize that most of our customers and associates are social media savvy, so what better way to recruit them [than] through channels they frequently use,” said Chris Taylor, Future Shop’s vice-president of human resources.

The so-called hiring blitz, which will add 40% more employees to the company’s 146 stores, begins this month.

Taylor said, “We’re thrilled that we can create thousands of new jobs for Canadians as we prepare for another successful shopping season in our stories and on our website."

The move toward social media comes at a time when many businesses, big and small, are trying to find new ways to reach clients and customers.
