Burnaby-based Future Shop plans to hire more than 6,000 seasonal staff across Canada by November 1 in preparation for a busy Christmas shopping season.

The hiring blitz has been started now to avoid training staff in the lead-up to Christmas. New associates will receive a one-week customer service training program and other instruction related to the products the electronic retailer sells.

Future Shop will be doing its own recruitment this year, instead of using outside recruiters.

Historically, more than 25 million people shop at Future Shop during the Christmas season.

Future Shop is a division of Best Buy Canada Ltd., the Canadian subsidiary of Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE:BBY).
