Ross McLeod, founder of Richmond-based Great Canadian Gaming Corp., died Sept. 5 at the age of 59.
McLeod was chairman and CEO of the company, which he founded in 1982.
“Ross dedicated his life to philanthropy and the betterment of our community from the inception of the British Columbia gaming industry to the present day,” Earnest Beaudin, Great Canadian’s lead director, said in a statement.
Some of McLeod’s achievements include:
- in 1999, the Outstanding Contribution to Canadian Gaming Industry award, presented at the Canadian Gaming Summit;
- in 2007, Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award (Hospitality and Tourism – Pacific Region);
- in 2010, Doorman of the Year award from the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation for service to B.C. charitable organizations.
“Ross will be fondly remembered as leader of over 4,000 employees across Canada, and Washington State, confidant to his executive team and a true visionary for the Canadian gaming and entertainment industry,” Beaudin said.
McLeod was a former divisional director of operations with the Pacific National Exibition.
Great Canadian has appointed company president Rod Baker as interim CEO.
