Groupon launches charitable program in Vancouver

Growing Chefs, a local non-profit focused on getting children excited about healthy food, has joined forces with Groupon as the first Vancouver organization to benefit from the daily deal giant’s philanthropic initiative, G-Team.

Launched in Chicago in 2010, Groupon’s G-Team leverages the company’s collective action model and immense reach to gather support for worthwhile causes and produce results for local organizations within the markets they serve.

The partnership with Growing Chefs will help bring classroom gardens to schools in Metro Vancouver, providing Grade 1 to 3 students with hands-on gardening and cooking lessons from volunteer chefs.

The classroom gardening campaign is available on Groupon Vancouver’s G-Team page until October 6 and followers are encouraged to pledge $10, with 40 pledges, or $400, allowing Growing Chefs to provide its program to one school in need.

Helen Stortini, executive director of Growing Chefs, said: “We are excited to be the first non-profit organization to benefit from the collective action model of G-Team. We’re just thrilled to use this type of community effort to raise support for our hands-on gardening and cooking program.”

“Our program plays an important role in addressing critical issues such as childhood obesity, sustainable food sourcing, and reconnecting children to the natural world.”
