British Columbia’s largest shopping centre is amalgamating space so Swedish retail giant H&M can house its flagship store for Metro Vancouver.
Metropolis at Metrotown long touted itself for having about 450 stores. General manager Doug MacDougall told Business in Vancouver August 5 that the mall’s store count is now closer to 400.
“We’ve reduced the number of stores here,” MacDougall said. “H&M has taken about a dozen stores that we’ve amalgamated into their 25,000-square-foot space.”
That store is slated to open in October – around the time retailers such as Forever 21, Michael Kors, Keihl’s and Bath and Body Works are also expected to open stores.
“The space is being renovated as we speak,” MacDougall said.
H&M will not be Metrotown’s largest store. The Bay, with 132,000 square feet, holds that title.
The mall is B.C.’s largest, with a total of nearly 1.8 million square feet of retail space and 8,500 parking spaces.
