Canaccord Financial raised $240,000 for Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Foundation’s mentoring programs for children at its second annual Big Brothers Golf Classic at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
TSI Terminal Systems Inc. and Samantha Mattersdorfer, the daughter of one of TSI’s longshore employees who was diagnosed with the same type of cancer that Terry Fox had, raised $52,550 for the Terry Fox Foundation through a charity run preceded by a balloon release.
The BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities and B.C. Friends of We Care raised over $18,000 for kids with disabilities through the Tacky Tourist Bowling Challenge. Twenty-seven teams from the hospitality and food-service industry participated in the event, including ARAMARK Canada, GFS, IPS, Saputo, White Spot and Kruger Products.
Women Making a Difference raised $12,400 for Touchstone Family Association at its fifth annual Tee Cup Golf Tournament.
Scotiabank employees raised $7,889.74 and volunteered at Coquitlam Centre’s drive-in movie nights to benefit SHARE Family and Community Services. SHARE also received $5,000 when Coquitlam Centre won the International Council of Shopping Centers Foundation’s Canadian Community Support Award for its inaugural Unwrapped event. The award is presented to one shopping centre in Canada each year to recognize exceptional achievements in community outreach for charitable initiatives.
Travel Underwriters staff raised $6,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and sponsored a wish for a Nanaimo boy suffering from a brain tumour and neurofibromatosis, who was able to enjoy a trip to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas with his family.
TD, during the opening of its ninth branch in Burnaby, made a $5,000 contribution to Catching the Spirit Youth Society to help the group enhance a community garden project at BCIT’s Burnaby Campus. The new TD branch also hosted a one-day e-Recycling event where residents dropped off 28 computers, 25 televisions, 85 stereos and peripherals, 25 phones, 50 light bulbs and 500 batteries.
Ford Motor Co. of Canada, Ltd. and Chilliwack Ford raised $4,600 for GW Graham Middle-Secondary School through a Drive One 4 UR School fundraising event.
ICBC’s underwriting team delivered more than 1,000 food items to the Harvest Project for Thanksgiving. The team’s efforts were matched by ICBC’s Giving Back to Communities program, with a $500 corporate donation to the Harvest Project.
