Teck Resources Ltd. donated $2.5 million to St. Paul’s Hospital to complete the remaining funding for the recently renovated and redesigned emergency area.

Vancouver Aquarium’s fourth annual Toast to the Coast event raised over $55,000 in support of its conservation and education programs.

HSBC Securities’ Great Pumpkin Run Walk raised $30,000 for the Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

Royal Canadian Legion #114 donated $5,000 to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation’s campaign to re-equip the hospital with all-new smart infusion pumps.

RBC donated $500 through its employee volunteer grants program to the Richmond Hospice Association, thanks to the volunteering efforts of Joan Lee, an RBC retiree.

Winners of the Better Business Bureau’s third annual Torch Awards, celebrating the achievements of businesses in our community, included: BC Automobile Association (Marketplace Excellence Award); Kiwano Marketing (Green Award); Smart Cookies (Consumer Leadership Award); and EcoEco (Marketplace Trust Award).

Klohn Crippen Berger received the 2010 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence for its work on the Nam Theun 2 hydroelectric project in Laos.

Author Chuck Davis received the Frank Woodside Past Presidents Distinguished Service Award in recognition of outstanding service to the Association for Mineral Exploration B.C.

Winners of the second annual BC Aboriginal Business Awards included: Amy Dopson, PAC10 Tutoring (Young Female Aboriginal Entrepreneur of the Year); Robert Ellis, Ellis Excavating Ltd. (Young Male Aboriginal Entrepreneur of the Year); and Michael Salto, Salto Waterworks, (Outstanding Business Achievement). Busines of the Year Awards went to: Jeff Ward (Animikii Inc.), Little Kingdom Gas and Grocery, Kekuli Café and Aboriginal Foods and Catering, Coast Tsimshian Resources L/P and Stuwix Resources Joint Venture. Outstanding Business Achievement Awards went to: Jags Beanstalk, Mug Solutions, A.J. Towing, Grizzley-Man Resource Management, Theytus Books, DL Safety Consulting, Selkin Logging Ltd., Michell Enterprises, Quinsam Shell Station, Tseshaht Market and Katzie Coast Marine.

Jonathan Boerboom, a second cook at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, won the Chaîne des Rotisseurs’ Black Box competition and was named Jeune Commis of Canada.
