BMO Financial Group donated $750,000 to the VGH and UBC Hospital Foundation for the recently opened Grandview Woodlands Health Care Centre.

TD raised over $245,000 through its Dunk Tank for Children’s Charities and related fundraising events. The money will go to Canuck Place, Ronald McDonald House, United Way of the Lower Mainland and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Sandy Blue, manager of economic development for the District of Maple Ridge, received the professional designation of certified economic developer from the Economic Developers Association of Canada.

John Furlong received the 2010 BC Export Awards’ Leadership Award for his contributions to B.C. and Canada through his leadership of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

BC Aviation Council industry award recipients included: Kamloops Airport (William Templeton Award); Dave Millar, Alpine Helicopters (Robert S. Day Trophy); Viking Air Ltd. (Aviation Entrepreneur of the Year); Saltspring Air (Back and Bevington Air Safety Award); and Harbour Air Seaplanes (Environmental Award).

The City of Richmond’s new Cambie drainage pump station and park plaza won project of the year from the Public Works Association of BC.

Illana Gozes, founding scientist, Allon Therapeutics, has been awarded the Olson Prize from the journal PEPTIDES. The award is given to the most meritorious original research article on the behavioural effects of peptides published during the previous year.

Barbara Mowat of Fasken Martineau received a 2010 Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case. The award recognizes individuals who have helped advance equality for women in Canada.
