The 2010 Ride for Diabetes Research raised nearly $500,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. TD Bank Financial Group made the largest donation: $132,000.

Vancity granted $298,802 to 37 not-for-profit organizations across the Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, to help them further their social and environmental work in our communities.

CEI Architecture, Cushman and Wakefield, HOOPP, Stuart Olson Dominion, Tonko Realty and Warm Hearts/Terasen Gas employees donated $30,000 to Variety - The Children’s Charity for the purchase of specialized bicycles.

Dave Mann and Ricky Mann donated $5,000 to the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society to help provide programs and services that directly assist youth, seniors and new immigrants in the community.

The 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Pacific Award category recipients included: Charles Kim, Trans Pac Group of Companies, and Samir Manji, Amica Mature Lifestyles Inc. (business-to-business products and services); Elton Pereira, ParetoLogic, Inc. (information technology); Nicole von Stefenelli, Urban Impact Recycling Ltd. (cleantech); Janice Abbott, Atira Property Management Inc. (social entrepreneur); Peter Barnes, Silver Wheaton Corp. (mining and metals); Emad Yacoub, Glowbal Restaurant Group Inc. (hospitality/tourism); and Chad Wasilenkoff, Fortress Paper Ltd. (manufacturing).

The City of Surrey won a 2010 Best Practices Community Excellence Award for erosion and sediment control from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.

The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre received the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Marketing Award for budgets under $175,000 for its Canada’s Arctic – Adaptation is Not an Option campaign.

The Whistler Transit Facility project won the Canadian Design-Build Institute’s annual Design-Build Award of Excellence.
