The BC Cancer Foundation’s Inspiration Gala raised $2.6 million for the BC Cancer Agency’s ANGELYC Project to decode the entire DNA (genome) of all lymphoid cancers in B.C.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Ride for Diabetes Research raised more than $545,000.

The BC Hospitality Foundation raised more than $25,000 through its Dish ‘n’ Dazzle cocktail competition. Simon Ogden from the Hotel Rialto was named bartending champion at the event.

The Telus Vancouver Community Board awarded $20,000 to Family Services of the North Shore to provide early intervention services to young adolescent girls with eating disorders through the Jessie’s Legacy program.

Music for Life V – chaired by Dennis Magrega and produced by SLJ Productions Inc. – raised $17,752 for the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The Richmond Community Foundation granted $10,000 to the Touchstone Family Services Association to assist with its Eating Together Family Program.

Coast Capital Savings donated $7,500 to SOS Children’s Village BC’s Fostering Growth program to help enhance the positive outcomes of foster kids in school, increase their ability to form healthy relationships, enhance their confidence in social situations and give their natural talents an opportunity to flourish.

Envision Financial Community Endowment awarded First West Foundation a $7,100 grant to purchase a new medication cart for Fraser Canyon Hospital.

Scotiabank donated $5,000 to support CampOUT! – UBC’s summer camp for LGBT youth and their allies.

TD Bank Financial Group helped raise $1,000 for the Vancouver chapter of Dress for Success through its Pacific Women in Leadership networking luncheon. The funds will be used to keep programs running so that women who have difficulty getting a job or staying employed get extra support.

The Vancouver Templeton/Pacific New Century Lions Clubs raised $720 through their annual poker tournament for Easter Seals Kids.

Winners of Clean Energy Association of BC industry awards included: Jeremy Haile, president, Knight Piesold Consulting; Paul Willis, president, Willis Energy Services Ltd.; and David Austin, partner, Tupper Jonsson and Yeadon (Lifetime Achievement Awards). Canoe Creek Hydro received the Project Excellence Award. Plutonic Power Corp. and GE Energy Financial Services received the Project Finance Award for their Dokie Wind Project. The Community of the Year Award went to Atlin and the Merit Award to the T’Sou-ke Nation.

Robert Clark, executive chef at C Restaurant, was crowned the culinary champion at Vancouver’s Gold Medal Plates.

(Business Person of the Year Award); Associated Engineering International Ltd. (Business of the Year Award); and Global BC (2010 Hall of Fame Inductee).

Surrey Board of Trade Business Excellence Awards recipients included: Adrenaline Productions (Student Entrepreneur of the Year); Murdoch Jewellers (one to five employees); van der Zalm + associates inc. (six to 20 employees); Endurance Wind Power Inc. (21-plus employees); ONEbean Coffee Co. (New Business of the Year); Surrey Hospice Society (not-for-profit: budget under $500,000); Elim Christian Care Society (not-for-profit: budget over $500,000); and Arvinder Bubber (Business Person of the Year).

Julio Montaner, director, BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, received the 2010 Albert Einstein World Award of Science by the World Cultural Council.

Leyland Pitt, professor of marketing, has been appointed to the Dennis Culver EMBA Alumni Professorship by SFU Business.
