The Hudson’s Bay Company announced this morning that it has secured exclusive Canadian franchise rights to open stand-alone stores and in-store outlets of the hugely successful U.K. fashion retailer Topshop and its male counterpart Topman.
The popular stores feature affordable and fashionable clothing.
“We couldn’t be more excited about adding Topshop and Topman to the Bay’s growing roster of fashion-forward finds,” said Bonnie Brooks, the Bay president and CEO. “Those in the know have been anxiously waiting for Topshop and Topman to come to Canada on a large scale, and the Bay is thrilled to deliver.”
The Topshop flagship store occupies 90,000 square feet of space at London’s Oxford Circus. It is considered the world’s largest high-street fashion store, attracting over 200,000 shoppers each week.
Topshop has stores in over 20 countries and opened its first flagship location outside of the U.K. in New York City in 2009.
“We’re thrilled to announce a store opening in Canada this year, further increasing our presence in the Americas,” said Mary Homer, managing director of Topshop. “We’ve wanted to open a stand-alone store in Canada for some time, and the large site within the Bay allows us to bring the full Topshop experience to the customer in an undiluted way. The concept will stay true to Topshop’s stores in other major cities, offering up-to-the-minute affordable style with fashion authority.”
The first stores will open in Toronto this fall. There is no word yet on when Topshop will launch in Vancouver.
