This past June, alumni of Vancouver’s first high school – King Edward High School – celebrated their school’s centennary even though the school was actually built in 1905. The school, which was located on the site of Vancouver General Hospital, changed its name to King Edward High in 1910. It succumbed to a fire and then a demolition crew in 1962.

Now, North Vancouver High School alumnus Chris Locke is drumming up corporate support to fund a barbecue in Norseman Park on August 14.

He said anyone who ever attended North Vancouver High School and their guests are welcome. There are 1,000 tickets available.

Locke has so far landed North Shore Credit Union, Penfold’s Roofing and Keith’s Plumbing and Heating as sponsors.

He said funds raised would help marketing efforts done mostly through traditional media such as newspapers.

North Vancouver High School was that city’s only high school for decades until Sutherland Secondary School was built in 1952 and Delbrook Senior Secondary School opened in 1957. North Vancouver High School closed in 1979.
