Vancouver’s HootSuite and memelabs – both created by Invoke Media – scooped Digi Awards in Toronto this week.
The awards, hosted by Achilles Media Ltd., showcase “remarkable digital media companies, projects, products and pioneers that are putting Canada at the forefront of the international mediascape.”
Hootsuite won in the top digital company category, along with four other Canadian companies, while memelabs won most innovative digital media technology.
Amy Davies, Achilles’ director of events and programs, said Hootsuite’s win recognizes how the social media dashboard has blazed “new trails in the digital space.
“They’ve grown phenomenally in the last few years,” she said. “So it was just a matter of recognizing that success.”
She added memelabs’ win recognizes how the technology has become a leading contest platform for brands by creating engagement through video, photo, audio and other technologies.
The DigiAwards were previously the Canadian New Media Awards, but rebranded this year. Davies said the goal was to become “a little bit hipper, edgier and in keeping with the crowd.”
