Hornby bike lane construction to be complete by early December

Hornby Street retailers rattled by recent construction work can rest assured crews remain on schedule to complete the route long before the holiday season rush.

Crews were working along Hornby Street at various intersections to upgrade traffic signals during the weekend in an effort to complete the work by December 3.

Hastings Street between Burrard and Hornby was scheduled to be open to a single lane of traffic today, tomorrow and Wednesday so workers can install a bike median. The block between Burrard Street and Canada Place is similarly expected to be open to one lane of traffic today.

Most of Hornby Street will be open to two lanes of traffic once the bike lane is complete. However, there will permanently be just one lane of traffic between Pacific Boulevard and Davie Street on Hornby after the bike lane work is complete. That’s because parking on both sides of the street will be retained.

According to documents obtained by Business in Vancouver, planter boxes are not expected to be installed anywhere on the route until at least next week.
