Toronto-based Just-Eat Canada, the nation’s largest online-food delivery portal, announced today it has expanded its operations westward with its acquisition of Vancouver-based YummyWeb Inc.
YummyWeb is the leading B.C. online-food service and will add 200 neighbourhood restaurants in the Greater Vancouver area to Just-Eat Canada's current restaurant client base of more than 600.
David Power, managing director of Just-Eat Canada, said, “The acquisition of YummyWeb is a key step toward growing our business in Western Canada. We will deliver our superior e-commerce and marketing support and a proven business model to independent restaurants in the Greater Vancouver area.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed; however, the acquisition follows the announcement last month by Just-Eat Canada's London-based parent company, Just-Eat Holdings Ltd., of aUS $48-million private equity financing deal with leading American venture capital investors.
The company stated that the infusion of venture capital would help Just-Eat Canada expand its business across Canada.
YummyWeb hosts online menus for restaurants from Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Richmond, Surrey and North Vancouver.
Although it’s not known whether all YummyWeb restaurant clients will remain once the new company takes over, Power said: “Our experience has proven that new partner restaurants will experience a 15% to 25% increase in revenue within the first year. Just-Eat Canada's solution provides them with e-commerce and Internet capabilities enabling them to be active players in the online marketplace.”
The Just-Eat Group, founded in Denmark in 2000, is based in London and is active in 10 countries around the globe.
