A Vancouver-based maritime software provider has landed a major contract with the Port of Los Angeles (POLA).
Klein Systems Group Ltd. will provide a comprehensive billing system to POLA that will integrate several operational areas, and streamline the 36,000 transactions processed at the port every year.
“The volumes and vastness of their operations will be an excellent showcase for the flexibility and efficiency of our system,” said Gina Arsens, Klein’s president and CEO.
POLA is the busiest container port in the U.S.
In 2008, it posted $426.3 million in revenue with $125 million in net income.
The port encompasses 43 miles of waterfront acreage, has 26 cargo terminals and welcomes 4,000 vessels every year.
In 2008, POLA handled 170 million tonnes of cargo compared with Port Metro Vancouver’s 114.5 million tonnes the same year.
The KleinPort operations system is used at more than 50 ports worldwide, and helps each port manage daily vessel scheduling, tracking, billing and property management.
BIV last caught up with Klein in January when Arsens was named a Top Forty Under 40.
