The vast majority of employees at a company that’s faced layoffs feel a significant increase in their workloads, according to a study by Right Management.
About 79% report their workloads grew as a result of layoffs, with 57% saying their workloads grew a lot.
Employees at large organizations felt the greatest pressure compared to those at small businesses. The burden was equally felt between staff both young and old.
Henryk Krajewski, vice-president and national practice leader at Right Management in Canada noted that management should acknowledge the increased workloads and help staff adjust by giving them a sense of choice and ownership in the new responsibilities.
“It’s been shown pretty clearly that firms that commit to these types of initiatives will be in a much stronger competitive position as the market improves.”
