Genesis Security has decided to triple its free community security patrols in Vancouver's west side.
The local security company will patrol an area covering roughly 63,000 homes from the edge of UBC to Granville Street and in downtown from the West End to Yaletown.
The service is an expansion of the free community security patrol Genesis launched two years ago covering a 25-block area of Kerrisdale. It expanded the patrols last year to cover 20,000 homes, and the company has committed to investing $1 million to run the community patrols until 2010.
More than 50 of Genesis' security guards are part of the service. They patrol the expanded area on foot, by bike and by car.
The company recently landed security contracts with the business improvement associations of Yaletown, the West End, downtown, Strathcona and South Granville.
