While men may head B.C.’s 27 largest mining companies, former BIV Influential Women in Business winner Linda Thorstad could change that in the years to come after being named to the top post at Orsa Ventures Corp. (TSX-V:ORN).
She told BIV August 9, “We have some pretty aggressive plans to build a solid company. We’re going to be focusing on some of the strategic metals. There’s a tremendous market and increase in prices in metals such as the rare earth ones.”
Orsa currently has three employees and virtually no revenue. It uses a small external support team to manage the legal and compliance aspects of its business.
Thorstad was CEO of Interaction Resources back in 1989 when BIV was founded. She was featured on one of this publication’s first covers.
She has previously headed the Vancouver Economic Development Commission and Leading Edge British Columbia. Her spare time is funnelled into charitable activities such as the United Way initiative Women United in Philanthropy.
