Dining Out for Life organizers expect to better the $200,000 that the organization raised last year to help people who live with HIV or AIDS.
Their optimism is largely fuelled by the fact that 240 restaurants are taking part this year. That’s 10 more than last year.
“The restaurant community has really come together this year, making it the largest event that we’ve had,” Lisa Martella, executive director of A Loving Spoonful, told Business in Vancouver March 21.
Restaurants from Vancouver to Whistler will participate in the 17th annual Dining Out for Life on March 24.
Diners who visit any of the participating restaurants for dinner will have 25% of their bill go to support A Loving Spoonful and The Vancouver Friends for Life Society.
Sheena Sargeant, executive director of Friends for Life, also spoke with BIV March 21. She said more than one-third of the restaurants will also serve lunch.
“It’s a great time to do a client thank-you or to invite the whole staff or team out for lunch,” she said.
A Loving Spoonful gives free meals to adults and children who have HIV-AIDS and Friends for Life provides alternative health and support for those living with HIV-AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.
The event has raised more than $3 million in the past 16 years.
