MDA will use its advanced RADARSAT-2 high-resolution surveillance satellite to sense surface changes over entire oil fields to increase production efficiency and minimize environmental problems. MDA will also produce analytical reports.

On November 15, MDA amended a contract for the design of the RADARSAT Constellation mission worth $6.7 million. Almost two weeks earlier on November 2, MDA revealed a $27.5 million contract with the Department of National Defence for transportable surveillance ground stations, expected to be used in the Arctic, along the southern border and for overseas operations under the Joint Space Support Project.

MDA earned $40.5 million net on $181.5 million in revenue for the quarter ended September 30, an improvement from $22 million and $166.5 million for the same period in 2010.

MDA's unmanned aerial vehicle "drone" division wound down its operations with the Canadian military, but has begun to work with the Australian Defence Force.

The 1969-founded company has 18 locations in the United States, England, India and Afghanistan.
