B.C. residents will be able to see one Vancouver-area attraction for free each day throughout May, under Tourism Vancouver’s just-announced Be a Tourist in Your Own Town program.
Tourism Vancouver will highlight a different attraction daily for 27 days in May, offering two free admission tickets each, on a first-come-first-serve basis, to locals who visit its website and download a coupon.
The deals will be announced the morning of the prior day – although the timing of the announcements has not yet been finalized.
The promotion will give away more than 30,000 free admissions to participating attractions such as: Britannia Mine Museum, Capliano Suspension Bridge, Greater Vancouver Zoo, H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, Science World at Telus World of Science, Vancouver Art Gallery and the Vancouver Maritime Museum.
“The goal is to get Vancouverites to become ambassadors for the city’s fabulous attractions,” said Amber Sessions, Tourism Vancouver's manager of travel and trade media relations.
“If you can get the locals to know about the attractions and get really enthusiastic about them, [then] when they have visiting friends and family in town, they’re going to suggest the whole group makes the trip.
That word-of-mouth promotion, she said, will drive up visitation at local attractions.
“This promotion is really just to get people out there, get the buzz going, remind people that all these really fabulous world-class attractions are there – you don’t have to go to Seattle for the weekend, you can stay here and have a great weekend.”
