Richmond-headquartered MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX:MDA) has won three contracts worth roughly $18 million to provide technology for three new telecommunication satellites.
MDA's technology will be used for one Space Systems/Loral satellite and two Astrium SAS satellites.
Astrium's Astra 3B satellite will be used to distribute direct-to-home broadcast services and two-way broadband services across Europe. Astrium's Amazonas 2 satellite will provide telecommunication services primarily to Brazil, but also to North America and other areas of South America.
Space Systems/Loral did not disclose how its new satellite will be used, however, the company did recently announce that it will build a new satellite for Sirius Satellite Radio.
MDA's technology will allow satellite users to transmit signals at different frequencies to ground stations and directly to home users.
MDA's share price range during the past week: between $47.55 and $48.55; 52-week high: $53.82; 52-week low: $34.53.
