Construction employers will have greater accessibility to workplace safety programs after the merger of the province’s two construction safety associations.
The Construction Safety Network and the Construction Safety Association of BC (CSABC) announced Wednesday they had completed a merger to create the BC Construction Safety Alliance.
Both organizations were formed from various segments of the construction industry, both providing industry-approved safety training.
The Construction Safety Network, for example, began in 2001 to improve safety in the road construction and maintenance sector. Its programs slowly grew to include the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of BC, the Canadian Home Builders Association of BC and others.
The CSABC began in 2004 and was owned and operated by the B.C. construction industry and included several key construction associations, including the Council of Construction Associations and the BC Construction Association.
The new alliance will work with WorkSafeBC to focus on providing programming and resources to address the top three causes of injuries and death in the sector: falls, being struck and over-exertion.
