Richmond's Macdonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX:MDA) will build an additional hand for the international space station's Canadarm2.
The new $15.7 million latching end effector (LEE), which the Canadarm2 uses to grip payloads on the space station, is part of an expanded contract with the Canadian Space Agency. The new LEE is a spare unit to ensure the availability of the Canadarm2 throughout life of the space station.
With the retirement of the space shuttle in 2010, the Canadarm2 will become increasingly important as it manipulates future cargo movers and other vehicles to the space station.
MDA's share price range during the past week: between $20.66 and $23.70; 52-week high: $50.90; 52-week low: $15.61.
