According to Statistics Canada, building permit values for multi-family dwellings in Vancouver rose more than 42% in June.
Across Canada’s residential sector, municipalities issued $3.7 billion worth of permits in June, up 1.5% from May.
The value of residential building permits was also up in B.C., gaining 32.6% on the previous month.
However, non-residential building permits in B.C. declined by 19.7%, attributable to decreases in commercial construction. This was despite an overall gain across Canada of 3%.
In contrast, the value of commercial building permits nationwide fell 16.5% to $1.6 billion in June, following a significant increase in May.
