At least 70% of adults in Greater Vancouver prefer to buy B.C. grown produce, according to a new survey conducted by Mustel Group for Capers Community Markets.
Respondents said that supporting local farmers and the local economy were the main reasons they preferred buying locally grown produce.
They also liked buying local to cut their environmental impact. The survey found that 81% of respondents said reduced air pollution from trucking and reduced fuel consumption would increase the likelihood that they would eat local products. That's 9% from 72% of respondents in 2005.
According to the survey, respondents over 35 were more likely than younger shoppers to buy locally grown produce.
