New Whistler gondola opens

The Whistler region’s newest gondola is slated to open Thursday morning.

The Whistler region’s newest gondola is slated to open Thursday morning.

The private Kadenwood gondola, located next to the public Creekside gondola, will travel up Whistler Mountain 749 feet to the new Kadenwood resort community, which is expected to eventually have 60 homes.

Only Kadenwood owners and their guests will be able to use the gondola Doppelmayr Garventa Group built for about $3.5 million.

Two-thirds of the 60 Kadenwood lots have been sold and some homes have already been built.

About half a dozen homeowners were expected to be at the 10 a.m. ceremony that would include monsignor Jerry Desmond blessing the gondola.

EcOasis Properties Ltd. bought the Kadenwood community from original developer Intrawest at the end of September for an undisclosed amount. (See “Private investor buys Whistler subdivision site from Intrawest” – issue 1104; December 21-27.)

“The convenience and proximity this private gondola affords Kadenwood residents tops off the ultimate enclave in North America’s top rated ski resort,” said Keith McIvor, vice-president of sales for EcOasis.
