Vancouver's NGRAIN, a developer of interactive 3D simulation systems, has signed a contract to provide virtual training software for the U.S. Marine Corps for an undisclosed sum.

The software will support the Marine Corps' maintenance training program for individual and crew weapons, ground weapon systems and vehicle subsystems. It will provide 3D equipment models and task simulations and will help recruits become familiar with all the parts of weapon systems and equipment.

NGRAIN's software enables real-time interactivity with 3D equipment simulations that the company says improves knowledge memorization by up to 80% compared with what users would get from watching an animation.

The software is scheduled to be deployed over the next year at the Marine Corps' Aberdeen proving grounds in Maryland and Camp Johnson in North Carolina.

In the past year, the company has seen tremendous growth. It has secured more than $7 million in orders from Canada's Department of National Defence and millions of dollars worth of orders from the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Last year, the company's software was incorporated into Lockheed Martin's visual damage and repair tracking software for the F-35, the U.S.A.'s latest stealth fighter.
