The value of building permits issued in metropolitan Vancouver in February was up 1% to $382 million compared with January, according to Statistics Canada.
That compares with a total increase of 14% to $4.5 billion in February across all of Canada’s census metropolitan areas.
The national statistics agency said Thursday the non-residential building sector was largely responsible for the increases across the country.
Canadian municipalities issued permits worth $5.8 billion in February, representing a 9.9% increase when compared with January.
In B.C., the value of non-residential permits was up 54% to $183 million in February. Meanwhile, the residential sector remained stagnant between January and February.
The value of permits issued in B.C. in February was up 11% to $631 million.
Statistics Canada said gains in non-residential sectors in Alberta and Ontario accounted for much of the growth at the national level.
