Revenue for Norsat International Inc. (TSX: NII) increased 18% to $4.5 million in its current second quarter, which ended June 30, compared with $3.8 million in 2006's second quarter.

Earnings totalled $600,000 compared with a loss of $1 million in Q2 2006, as the Vancouver-based satellite communications developer enjoyed its third consecutive profitable quarter.

The higher revenue resulted partly from a 34% drop in operating expenses, which fell to $1.8 million versus $2.7 million in last year's second quarter.

The decreased spending reflected cost restructuring initiatives that the company's new management began last September.

Norsat recently received a $1 million order from the United States Army for portable satellite systems.
