Norsat International Inc. (TSX:NII) said Wednesday that some members of the media circus surrounding 33 trapped miners in a remote part of Chile for two-and-a-half months has the company’s satellite technology to thank for keeping the lines of communications open.
The Richmond-based company said three of its portable satellite units were in action at the San Jose Mine in Chile, helping Disaster Truck, Televisa and CBS’ London bureau broadcast news updates.
Norsat announced Thursday morning its revenue declined slightly and profit was flat in the third quarter.
Revenue was $4.5 million compared with $5.1 million in Q3 2009 because of the late timing of new orders and slow satellite sales.
The company posted a $600,000 profit that was inline with profit posted in the same period last year.
Norsat’s share price range in the past week: between $0.64 and $0.66; 52-week high: $0.87; 52-week low: $0.52.
