The newest air connection between Vancouver and Hong Kong has taken a nosedive just 18 months after its inaugural flight.
Oasis Hong Kong Airlines made a splash in the Vancouver market with high-profile promotions and cheap airfares, but high fuel costs and a competitive environment forced the point-to-point carrier to suspend operations and apply to the Hong Kong court to appoint a provisional liquidator on Wednesday.
Accounting firm KPMG was named as the provisional liquidator and is reportedly trying to find new investors for the company.
According to the airline's brief statement on its website, Oasis travellers will have to seek alternative arrangements at their own expense.
