Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega S.A. is tripling the size of its only Canadian store, which is at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Omega opened what was intended to be an 800-square-foot temporary location in December 2009 to highlight its brand throughout the 2010 Olympics. Strong sales prompted Omega to keep the store open.

This week, the watch seller opened a boutique that is more than 2,400 square feet and has access to Georgia Street.

“Vancouver has always been a key market for us, and it became even more so following the successful Winter Games in 2010,” Gregory Swift, Omega’s brand president for North America, told Business in Vancouver November 28. “We have 23 stores in the U.S., but this is our only store in Canada.”

Omega helped sponsor the 2010 Winter Olympics. It produced a 2,010-unit run of souvenir Olympic watches that have long since sold out.

Swift said watches to commemorate London’s 2012 Olympics are now on sale.
