Online job recruitment up in Canada, flat in B.C.

Online recruitement of workers has regained traction not seen since before the recession, according to the Monster Employment Index Canada’s second quarter results released Tuesday.

Online recruitement of workers has regained traction not seen since before the recession, according to the Monster Employment Index Canada’s second quarter results released Tuesday.

Recruitment is at its highest level since the fourth quarter of 2008 and up 29% from the second quarter of 2010.

However, online prospects in B.C. and Vancouver had minimal increases compared to other provinces and cities.

The index has seen four consecutive quarters of increased online recruitment activity, according to Peter Gilfilllan, senior vice-president of international sales and general manager of Monster Canada.

“Employers are demonstrating considerable confidence which has resulted in a strong upward trend in online recruitment for the second quarter,” said Gilfillan.

However, year-over-year growth in B.C. saw an increase of just 7%, compared to Ontario, which experienced a 42% jump.

Similarly, Vancouver posted a mere 7% year-over-year increase in worker demand, compared with a 54% increase in Hamilton, the top growth city.
