Ottawa and Victoria invest $35.4 million in B.C. transportation upgrades

The federal government and B.C. plan to spend more than $35.4 million on 15 upgrades and improvements to the transportation network in the province.

The biggest investment will be in the $13 million development of a northbound rapid bus lane on Highway 99 from King George Highway to Highway 91 in Surrey.

Other investments in Metro Vancouver include a $4.8 million overpass for 28th Avenue over Highway 17 in Delta; $3.1 million for seismic upgrades to the Knight Street Bridge connecting Vancouver and Richmond, and $1.6 million to improve the Mary Hill Bypass in Port Coquitlam.

The largest investments outside the Lower Mainland include $3.6 million for the Anderson River Bridge in Boston Bar, $2.2 million for Paulson Bridge on Highway 3 in Christina Lake and $1.2 million in improvements to the Silverhope overpasses over Highway 1 in Hope.

The federal government is spending $17 million for all 15 projects, and the province is contributing $16 million. The province estimates about 220 jobs will be created from the investment.
