Vancouver-based Pakit Inc. is developing packaging technology for soft drink and snack giant PepsiCo Inc. (NYSE:PEP).
“We would never produce packaging for them,” said Dwayne Yaretz, who was recently appointed Pakit’s president. “That’s not our business. We would just supply the technology and the machinery.”
He told Business in Vancouver August 2 that the partnership with PepsiCo is beyond the stage of simply discussing what technology Pakit can provide.
“We’re actually developing technology for them,” Yaretz said.
Pakit has a patented a process for producing three dimensional moulded shapes from virgin and recycled cellulose fibres to be used as packaging materials.
Yaretz said the company’s technology makes a product that is as strong as plastic while being as sustainable as paper.
