Paragon Development and Marriott International Inc. announced yesterday they have agreed to terms to build two luxury hotels at Vancouver's new entertainment destination adjacent to BC Place, subject to obtaining internal and City of Vancouver approvals.
Paragon and Marriott will be working together on the new JW Marriott, the first in B.C., as well as a luxury boutique hotel from Marriott's signature “Autograph Collection.”
The press release states that Marriott and Paragon bring extensive experience in creating total destination experiences and together are committed to bringing new international demand to the market.
“We are very excited to be working with Paragon Gaming on this project [which] we believe will complement the existing Vancouver tourism product, while creating entirely new markets for the city,” said Scott Allison, vice-president of Canadian operations for Marriott International.
“Paragon is one of our key strategic partners, with both existing and future projects across Canada. Like Marriott, this is a business managed by the second generation of the founding family and we share many of the same values of offering superior guest experiences based on looking after our associates so that they in turn create a memorable guest experience.”
Both properties will be incorporated into the proposed $500 million expansion next to BC Place, which Paragon announced in 2010.
The hotly debated issue of whether to approve the casino culminated in a marathon public hearing at city hall on Sunday evening.
City council’s decision is expected after the April 19 meeting.
