Pascal Spothelfer to leave BC Technology Association

BC Technology Industry Association (BCTIA) president and CEO Pascal Spothelfer announced Thursday that he will leave the organization June 30.

BC Technology Industry Association (BCTIA) president and CEO Pascal Spothelfer announced Thursday that he will leave the organization June 30.

According to a release, Spothelfer, who’s been at the helm of the organization since 2007, plans to return to the corporate sector, though he didn’t say what he would be doing.

“When I joined the BCTIA in 2007 before I got hired I had a discussion with the board and my intention was to stay for three years,” Spothelfer told Business in Vancouver. “Last year, when we started the Centre for Growth initiative and this program really came online, in my discussions with the board and the team it seemed to make sense to extend [my stay] until the end of June to make sure this program was really on the rails and moving forward, and so it’s time for me to move on.”

The BCTIA is an industry-funded organization with 2,700 member companies that supports the growth of the province’s technology industry.

Spothelfer has yet to line up his next industry “gig”, but he said he wants to use his leadership skills to build a world-class business.

“I’m 50 so I have to play to my strengths now,” he said. “I think I have a lot of experience in leadership, in building teams, in expanding businesses … I really would hope to find an opportunity to take a business to the next level, of taking it from a few million, $10 million to a $100 million company. I think that would really play to my strengths.”
