Sally Emmerson and Daryl Hutchison have been appointed associate principals and Martin Pykalo an associate of ABBARCH Architecture Inc. Prior to joining the firm’s interior design division, Emmerson was founding principal of Raven Design Consultants. Pykalo was previously with Atelier Pacific Architecture and Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects.
Chris McBride has been named executive director of the BC Paraplegic Association. He was previously managing director of ICORD and an executive on the Rick Hansen Solutions in Motion Alliance board.
Caley Denton and Richard Sandor have been added to the BC Association of Integrated Marketers board. Denton is former vice-president of ticketing and consumer marketing for VANOC and currently teaches sports marketing at Capilano University. Sandor is former national director of DDB Canada.
Don Enns has been appointed president of LifeSciences BC. Previously president and CEO of CANTEST Ltd., he is currently a director or committee adviser to Genome BC and the World Wildlife Fund.
Russell Mumper has joined the scientific advisory board of enGene Inc. He is currently executive associate dean, academics, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy and director of the university’s Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery.
Iris Dias has been promoted to communications consultant at Reputations. She was previously an account co-ordinator.
Ross Templeton and Eldon Lau have been made equity partners at BTY Group. Both were previously senior associates with the firm.
Bernie Maroney continues as president of the Simon Fraser University Alumni Association. Chris Hilliard (MagPower) is vice-president. Lien Yeung (CBC) is treasurer. New members are Ian Davis (Sharp’s Audio Visual), Kalpna Mangat (Art of Living), Cailey Murphy (BC Hotel Association), Armita Seyedalikhani (FINCAD) and Greg Taylor (BC Cancer Agency – Genome Sciences Centre).
Robin Brayne has been elected chair of the Capilano University board of governors. Jane Shackell has been elected vice-chair. Brayne was previously North Vancouver School District superintendent and associate director of SFU’s Centre for the Study of Educational Leadership and Policy. Shackell is currently a lawyer with Miller Thomson LLP. New board members include Capilano University president Kris Bulcroft, Four Host First Nations Society CEO Tewanee Joseph, ICBC CFO Geri Prior and ACL Services Ltd. vice-president Blair Simonite.
David Paperny has joined UBC’s Graduate School of Journalism as Canwest visiting professor. He is the co-founder of Paperny Films along with his wife, Audrey Mehler. Paperny, a former CBC television producer, received an Academy Award nomination in 1994 for his The Broadcast Tapes of Dr. Peter (CBC/HBO), which documented the final two years of the life of Peter Jepson-Young, and was a founding board member of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation.
Patrick Murphy has resigned as a director of Synex International Inc. but will continue to provide some accounting services to the company.
Robin Goetz and Rob Watkins have been named branch managers of Envision Financial’s Sardis and Scottsdale locations, respectively. Goetz was previously a service representative and assistant branch manager at Envision. Watkins most recently managed Envision’s Ridge Meadows branch.
Leo Wilson has joined PI Financial Corp. as investment banking analyst. He was previously with The Bowra Group and Morgan Stanley.
Wade Grant has been appointed economic development co-ordinator for the Musqueam Indian Band. He was previously assistant general manager of the Aboriginal Pavilion at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, policy analyst for BC Assembly of First Nations regional Chief Shawn Atleo and former assistant to B.C. Minister of Public Safety and solicitor general John Les.
Blair Heffelfinger has been appointed president and CEO and a director of International Bio Recovery Corp. (IBR), replacing Henry Bow, who is retiring but will continue as a director of the company. Heffelfinger was previously IBR’s vice-president.
Scott McBride has been appointed president and CEO of Consumer Protection BC, replacing Terry Barnett, who is retiring. McBride was previously senior vice-president and COO of the BC Automobile Association.
Heather Maycock, Kara Booth, Tamara Hutchison and Jody Young have been promoted within Tourism Vancouver Island. Maycock, previously regional trade relations representative, has been made trade and consumer marketing manager. Booth, previously marketing co-ordinator, has been made media and trade relations co-ordinator. Hutchinson, previously industry services co-ordinator of events, has been made marketing co-ordinator. Young, previously receptionist and distribution co-ordinator, has been made industry services co-ordinator of events. Megan Fisher has been hired as receptionist and distribution co-ordinator.
Khan Ozol has joined The Headhunters Inc. as senior recruitment consultant. He was previously senior consultant at David Aplin Recruiting.
Lindsay Johnston, Brigeeta Richdale and Aaron Atkinson have joined Harper Grey LLP as associates in, respectively, the environmental law, professional regulation and health law groups; securities and business litigation groups; and health law and insurance groups. All three completed their articles with the firm before being called to the B.C. bar in 2010.
Nicholas Ellegood has joined Hakemi & Company Law Corp. He previously articled and practised at Lawson Lundell LLP and was called to the B.C. bar in 2005.
Gary Wu has joined the board of Rockwell Diamonds Inc., replacing Yong Guo, who has stepped down to focus on startup business opportunities. William Fisher has also resigned from the board to pursue other business interests. In addition, Gerhard Jacobs has been appointed CFO of Rockwell and Leon Meyer manager of its Tirisano project. Wu is currently managing partner of Godia Capital Partners. Jacobs was previously CFO and financial director at Simmer and Jack Mines Ltd. and financial and administration superintendent/manager of the Placer Dome Western Areas joint venture. Meyer was most recently with JIC Mining.
Michael Thicke has joined Serengeti Resources Inc. as principal consulting geologist. He was previously with BHP Billiton and Rio Algom. Myron Osatenko has retired as Serengeti’s chief geologist.
Michael Newman has been appointed director of the board of Galahad Metals Inc. He is currently CEO of Caldera Geothermal Inc. and managing director of Adevam Investments Inc. Toni Wallis has retired from Galahad’s board to attend to her consulting interests, but will continue to advise the board on technical matters.
Michael Winship has been appointed COO of Quadra FNX Mining Ltd., replacing Jack Miller, who has retired. Winship was previously president and COO of Hudbay Minerals Inc., senior vice-president and COO of PT International Nickel Tbk and vice-president, mining and milling, at Vale Inco.
Gerry McConnell has been appointed chair of the board of NovaGold Resources Inc. He was previously president and CEO of Etruscan Resources Inc. and NovaGold’s president and CEO.
Rick Tschauder has been made a director of Del Toro Silver Corp. Currently vice-president and COO of Bueno de Oro, Inc., he was previously chief geologist of Hecla Mining.
Robert Ashauer has resigned as CFO of Kinetex Resources Corp.
Jim MacCallum has been appointed CFO of Vivonet Inc., replacing Kevin Falk, who is now chief product officer. MacCallum was previously vice-president of finance for Absolute Software and controller of operations for Cisco Systems Inc.
