Roger Barnsley has been named president emeritus of Thompson Rivers University (TRU). He was previously president and vice-chancellor of TRU and the University College of the Cariboo.

Evaleen Jaager Roy has been appointed chair of the board of Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She is currently principal of Jaager Roy Advisory Inc. and was previously vice-president, human resources and community, at Electronic Arts.

Mark Cruise and Peter Mordaunt have joined the board of Ethos Capital Corp. Cruise is currently president and CEO of Trevali Resources Corp. and vice-president, business development, of Cardero Resource Corp. Mordaunt was previously chair and CEO of Stingray Copper Inc., which he founded, managed and merged with Mercator Minerals Ltd.

Desmond Balakrishnan has resigned as corporate secretary of 99 Capital Corp. Casper Bych will replace him.

Peter Thomson has been promoted to director of sales for Nuheat Industries. He was previously the company’s western regional sales manager.

David Alves has been appointed a director and president and CEO of Sterling Shoes Inc. He was previously group director for TK Maxx/HomeSense.

Maureen O’Donnell has been appointed executive director of Child Health BC. She is currently senior medical director for Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children. Prior to that, O’Donnell was a developmental pediatrician at BC Children’s Hospital, division head of developmental pediatrics at UBC and adviser to the deputy minister of children and youth with special needs, Ministry of Health Services, B.C.

Russ Cowan has been appointed executive director of the Vancouver Hotel Destination Association. Prior to working as an independent consultant he acted as executive director, marketing and sales, for Bear Mountain Resort and director of marketing for Tourism Victoria.

Wally Oppal has been named commissioner of the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry. He was previously B.C.’s attorney general as well as a judge in the County Court of B.C., B.C. Supreme Court and B.C. Court of Appeal. Opal also previously acted as commissioner of an independent commission of inquiry into policing in the province.

Jennifer Williams has joined Richards Buell Sutton LLP as an associate with the commercial real estate team. She was previously with Blake Cassels & Graydon. Mark Hamilton has rejoined Richards Buell Sutton as a litigation associate with the employment law and insurance law teams.

Alan Emmott, a former Metro Vancouver board chair, has passed away. During his public career he also acted as a reeve, mayor and councillor of Burnaby.

Tara Felix has been appointed communications protocol officer for the Musqueam Indian Band. She was previously Torch Relay liaison for the Four Host First Nations/VANOC and a dancer in the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies.

Barbara Steele has been named president of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities board. She is a City of Surrey councillor, director of the Lower Mainland Local Government Association, member of the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee, alternate director with Metro Vancouver and director with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

John Blake has been appointed president and CEO of Luna Gold Corp., succeeding Jim Bahan, who will continue as a director and consultant. Blake was previously chief executive and director of operations for the Indonesian subsidiary of Newcrest Mining, CEO of Australian Solomons Gold Ltd., executive director of AgincourtResources Ltd. and president of PT Agincourt Resources Indonesia.

Carleigh Whitman and Karen McDonald have been appointed manager of government relations and manager of corporate communications, respectively, for Teck Resources. Whitman previously practised corporate and commercial law at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. McDonald was previously communications director for 2010 Legacies Now and director of communications for the B.C. government.

David Rouleau has been appointed vice-president, operations, of Taseko Mines Ltd. He previously worked with Canadian Natural Resources and Teck Cominco.

Mel Lawson has been appointed vice-president, project development, for Curis Resources Ltd. He was previously engineering manager at QuadraFNX.

Stephen Morzenti has been appointed chair of the technical advisory board of Tigris Uranium Corp. He is currently president and CEO of GasTech Inc. and World Nuclear Co. Prior to that Morzenti was chief technical adviser for Energy Metals Corp.

Lan Shangguan has been appointed CFO and corporate secretary of Yalian Steel Corp., replacing Murray Flanigan, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities. Shangguan is a chartered accountant who previously worked for KPMG, Ernst & Young and Grant Thornton.

Yang Xifu has been appointed a non-executive director of Southern Hemisphere Mining Ltd. He is currently managing director of Langfang Xinda Ferroalloy Co. Ltd. and was formerly vice-chair of the Chinese Ferroalloy Association.

Thomas Conway has been appointed to the board of i-minerals inc. He was previously vice-president, risk management, at Newmont Mining Corp.

David Paterson has been appointed to the board of Kenai Resources Ltd. He is the founder of HSBC Private Equity Management Ltd. and a director of Chepstow Capital Advisors Ltd. and Interactyx Ltd.

Bruce Lock has resigned as director and CFO of North American Gem Inc. and Solitaire Minerals Corp. to pursue personal interests. Doug McFaul has been appointed to replace him.

Brian Palmieri has resigned as president of GLG Life Tech Corp. to pursue other opportunities, but will remain as vice-chair of the company’s board. CEO Luke Zhang will assume Palmieri’s responsibilities.
