One of B.C.’s biggest fairs has received top honours for expanding its brand presence.

On Wednesday, the B.C. chapter of the American Marketing Association (BCAMA) named the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) winner of the 2011 marketer of the year award.

The award recognizes the most outstanding integrated marketing strategy in the province, and went to the PNE for its “100 Years of Fun” marketing campaign for the 17-day annual fair.

“It is a well deserved win,” said Georgia Dahle, past president and chairman of the marketer of the year judging committee. “And particularly impressive, as very few non-profit organizations have ever claimed this award.”

PNE president Mike McDaniel said the marketing campaign, which occurred in 2010, was strengthened by Winter Olympic Games events and BC Lions games at Empire Field.

“Winning marketer of the year for our ‘100 Years of Fun’ campaign is a fantastic honour and 2010 was the perfect opportunity to revisit our history to reconnect with our longtime fans,” said McDaniel.

Last year’s winner was train tour operator Rocky Mountaineer.

The award will be presented October 13 at the 41st annual Marketer of the Year gala at the Westin Bayshore Hotel.
