Businesses that want to switch their phone systems over to voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) now have more choices, thanks to Primus Telecommunications' expansion into the Metro Vancouver region.

Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. – a subsidiary of Primus Telecommunications Group Inc. (NYSE: PTGI) – is now offering VoIP in 26 communities in B.C. It is part of an expansion across Canada to 240 exchanges. Primus is offering 100% coverage for the Greater Vancouver area.

VoIP uses the Internet, rather than traditional telephone networks, for phone services. One of its advantages is that there are no long distance charges between Primus customers.

Primus’ VoIP packages also offer business a number of special features, including a call forwarding option that allows business people to have their office phone number rerouted to home numbers or smartphones, according to a Primus spokeswoman.

VoIP is also cheaper than traditional phone service, Primus said in a news release. Business customers can save more than 40% on their monthly communication bills, according to the release.

In addition to all communities in the Metro Vancouver region, Primus is also offering VoIP in south Kamloops, Squamish, Victoria and Nanaimo.
