The provincial government has approved six new applied degree programs for British Columbians.
Victoria's Royal Roads University will offer its first doctoral degree in social sciences. The new degree, which is the first of its kind, will have an applied social science focus designed primarily for public and private-sector working professionals, agency managers and independent consultants.
Other new degrees include:
bachelor of arts with a major in economics offered by Nanaimo-based Vancouver Island University;
bachelor of technology in ecological restoration offered at the B.C. Institute of Technology;
bachelor of athletic and exercise therapy at Camosun College;
bachelor of recreation management at Langara College for recreation employees pursuing entry-level and mid-level management careers in the field; and
bachelor of science in nursing at Vancouver Community College for entry-level registered nurses.
Since 2001, more than 240 new undergraduate and graduate degree programs have been created for B.C. public and private post-secondary institutions.
