Rogers Wireless is spending $10 million to expand its GSM wireless network in northern British Columbia.
The project will increase network coverage along the Prince Rupert/Prince George corridor. Its first phase will bring GSM service to Prince Rupert and Terrace. Smithers, Kitimat and Hazelton will receive coverage in 2008.
The GSM project will expand wireless data services along the corridor for BlackBerry users and mFleet vehicle tracking system users.
In addition to supporting local businesses interested in using wireless data services, the new system will benefit international tourists visiting northern B.C. through a number of roaming agreements signed with wireless operators elsewhere in the world.
