Social networking for fun and profit

Boosting your company’s bottom line could be a status update away. At least that’s what today’s Social Intranet Summit in Vancouver aims to show business owners.

Boosting your company’s bottom line could be a status update away. At least that’s what today’s Social Intranet Summit in Vancouver aims to show business owners.

The all-day summit, which is being held at the Vancouver Convention Centre, is the second to be sponsored by Vancouver-based ThoughtFarmer.

Social networking sites like Facebook have been banned from many workplaces for fear of decreased employee productivity.

What summit organizers hope to show is how the same idea and technologies can be applied internally in a business to boost productivity and collaboration.

Speakers and guests attending the convention come from all over the globe and will be discussing topics such as the psychology behind employee happiness that arises through being connected via social intranet and the resulting increased productivity seen from those employees.

It will look to help business owners learn how to properly use either their previously existing social intranet software or how to implement new software to engage their employees toward company goals.

Gordon Ross, vice-president strategy and co-founder of ThoughtFarmer, told BIV that companies that have implemented social intranet see increased productivity, collaboration and knowledge retention.

Some of Thoughtfarmer’s clients include Mountain Equipment Co-op, eHarmony, and Vancouver Airport Authority.
