Canadians spent less eating out in June with total food sales in Canada falling 1.3% in June, according to Statistics Canada data released Monday.
Total sales fell to $3.98 billion from $4 billion due primarily to a 3.1% drop in sales at full-service restaurants and a 1.3% decline for catering and mobile food service operators.
Two sectors that saw modest increases included limited-service establishments where patrons order their meals at the counter and drinking establishments.
Provincially, restaurant sales fell the most in Newfoundland (-2.5%), Quebec (-2.3%), Ontario (-1.5%) and B.C. (-0.9%).
